Builder Spotlight: Benito Contreras

At Junk in the Truck, we are proud to partner with builders and real estate investors who share our commitment to quality and professionalism. This month, we’re spotlighting Benito, a real estate investor  and mentor whose journey into real estate began with a desire to create greater financial freedom for himself and his family.

Originally from New York City, Benito started his career in the technology industry finding that the high cost of living made it difficult to get ahead. Looking for another path, he began exploring real estate, starting with rental properties and multifamily conversions.

“Once I did the first one, it was like, okay, this is tough, but it’s not that bad. It’s totally doable,” Benito explains.

Today, Benito works across several areas of real estate while also mentoring aspiring investors. Through his mentorship program, he teaches new investors how to find and analyze deals, run the numbers, navigate construction, and ultimately purchase their first property.

“I like seeing people go from not having any knowledge to, like, ‘Wow, they’re killing it,’” he shares.

Two of Benito’s biggest projects on the horizon are his first new construction projects in Fishtown and another project on Reed St. For him, stepping into new construction represents an exciting new challenge and another opportunity to expand his knowledge.

“I made it my priority to be able to do anything that comes my way,” Benito says.

Junk in the Truck has worked alongside Benito on several of his projects and has become one of his go-to demolition partners. He says the team’s attention to detail, speed, and reliability have made a significant difference when preparing his properties for their next phase.

“Phenomenal,” Benito says of his experience with Junk in the Truck. “The level of detail is there. The speed is there.”

For Benito, that reliability means he can trust the work to be completed properly without having to constantly check on the job site. Whether it’s a renovation or a larger demolition project, he knows the Junk in the Truck team can handle the work and keep the project moving.

At the center of Benito’s approach to real estate is a simple philosophy: do it right the first time. Rather than choosing the cheapest materials or cutting corners, he believes investing in quality upfront creates better long-term results.

“I try to make every single house, whether it’s a rental or whether it’s a flip, as though I’m going to live in it,” Benito explains.

That same mindset shapes how he approaches his portfolio. For Benito, bigger isn’t always better. A smaller portfolio that is well-managed and carries less debt can ultimately outperform a much larger one.

At Junk in the Truck, we’re proud to support builders and investors like Benito who value quality, trust, and long-term results as they continue to grow their businesses and take on new opportunities.
