A successful renovation takes more than a great design. It takes the right team working together from the very beginning.
For this Designer Spotlight, Junk in the Truck partnered with Gold Marked Studio, a South Jersey-based interior design firm, on a 6,000+ square-foot mansion renovation in Haddonfield, New Jersey.
Led by Juliana and Marissa, Gold Marked Studio is reimagining the home’s interior while finding ways to maintain the architectural character that makes the property unique. Junk in the Truck completed the full gut demolition, preparing the space for its next chapter.
Getting to Know Gold Marked Studio
Gold Marked Studio approaches each project by first understanding the home and its character. Even with a full renovation, preserving the original architecture and bringing out the home’s potential remain important parts of their design process.
For this project, that meant rethinking the home’s layout, including one of its biggest design decisions: relocating the kitchen to an entirely new area of the house. Once that location was decided, the rest of the layout started to make sense. The renovation will also include a custom speakeasy, adding another unique feature to the home.
Where Demolition Meets Design
Junk in the Truck completed more than 6,000 square feet of full gut demolition, with one important consideration: several existing features needed to stay.
Our crew carefully worked around the fireplaces, staircases, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems while removing the existing interior finishes and preparing the home for construction.
As Gold Marked Studio explained, demolition plays an important role in the design process. Once the existing materials are removed, the team can better understand the home’s structure and make informed decisions about how to move forward.
The Importance of Collaboration
One point Juliana and Marissa emphasized was the importance of bringing the entire project team together early.
Designers, contractors, and demolition teams each bring different expertise to a renovation. Having everyone involved from the start allows for better communication, a clearer understanding of the project, and a smoother transition between phases.
At Junk in the Truck, we understand that demolition is one of the first steps in bringing a larger vision to life. Our job is to prepare the space, work carefully around what needs to remain, and give the next team a solid starting point.
We’re proud to have partnered with Gold Marked Studio on this Haddonfield project and look forward to seeing their design vision come together.
